Juggalette of the Month: Checkers

This month we talked to Staff Writer: Checkers.   AKA  Hannah Monroe, check out her facebook page: HERE

Hannah Monroe is an up and coming author in the public eye. She has written two music related books called Growing Up Wicked© and Living It Wicked©.
  • Bio
I have been writing since I was a small child, starting with short little stories and poetry. At 13, I was published in a large anthology of poems for a poem I wrote called, “My Jeans” and later had three more poems published by the same company with the last poem, “A Call From Shangri-La” being featured on page 1 of the book. I have written close to 2000 poems over the years. About 5 years ago, I had an idea for a horror novel and began writing. After loosing my notes to the book, I set it aside and only earlier this year picked it back up to finish it. I finished my first book, “Presage of Death” on my 29th birthday this year. I still have many edits to go with the book before it is ready for publishing. In May 2013, I sat down to write my second book, “Growing Up Wicked” and have recently gained both verbal and written permission from Psychopathic Records for publishing. Growing Up Wicked became my first publication on September 17, 2013. I am currently working on the sequel, Living It Wicked. Keep your eyes out for me…you haven’t seen anything yet!

1. What do you bring to the table that’s different from any other Juggalette of the month?

I cannot speak on behalf of every other Juggalette, but what makes me different is that I am an author/reviewer for Juggalo News. In the writing world I go by Hannah Monroe and have released two books, Growing Up Wicked and Living It Wicked, that are solely focused on my life being a Juggalo/lette following ICP. I chose to write these books to show the world what life is like for all of us because the negativity and bad vision is strong, especially with the FBI labeling us all as gang members. I continue to strive to write more books based around our lifestyle and also delving into other realms of horror fiction and science fiction.

2. What does your daily life consist of?

My life on a day to day is very busy. I have ocd which means my brain is constantly going thinking about stuff and trying to organize everything. Because of this, I try to do as much as I can every day. I work full time as a House Manager for a company that works with people with developmental disabilities. I manage two clients care and have 6-8 staff under my charge. This job keeps me going to appointments, doing paperwork, making arts and crafts and pretty much anything else you can think of for someone else’s daily life. On top of this, as mentioned already, I’m an author. This means I am always writing something or going to concerts and reviewing shows. I also run a costume company, Blood Lust Costuming, that keeps me very busy in the summer and fall making custom costumes for people. I am also married and have a step son we have every weekend. My day usually starts at 5:30am and goes until about midnight, with nearly no breaks in between. My husband and I try to stay busy visiting family, going to the movies, hanging with friends, fishing, concerts, and just doing whatever entertains us for the day. I also have 4 cats and a dog!!! BUSY!!!!

3. How old were you when you first considered yourself a Juggalette?

Ok, small rant. I have actually never considered myself a Juggalette. When I found ICP at 12 years old, I’m 31 now, the only “classification” we had was Juggalo. It didn’t matter if you were a male or female, there weren’t a lot of females down at the time anyway, everyone was just a Juggalo. I accept being called a Juggalette only because I don’t always feel like arguing the point. But I am full on 100% always be a Juggalo!!!

4. Have you ever had a Faygo shower? Share your experience!

I have had more than I can count. But two stand out to me above all the rest. The first was my very first ICP show in Lincoln, NE. I was 14 years old and sitting on a banister watching ICP. They had the first Faygo break and Shaggy 2 Dope blasted me straight in the face with one of those super soaker things they use. I was drenched from head to toe. Funny part is, he did it twice in a row! I didn’t even have time to breath in between. The second was the mighty death pop tour in Des Moines Iowa. This was the night of my first Faygo Armageddon on stage with ICP. The entire 15 minutes I was in the stage it was one wet fiasco Faygo flying fit! I was blasted in the face by one of the clown the second I stepped on the stage and then every way I turned, someone was splashing me! My shoes were about 5 pounds each at the end of the show. It was rejuvenating!

5. What is the one thing that irritates you the most about being a lette at events like the Gathering of the Juggalos?

I absolutely cannot stand disrespect. Over the years and the numerous gatherings I have been to, I have noticed one solid…Juggalos are starting to disrespect each other. The one dividing difference I have always cherished these last 19 years is the acceptance and love experienced getting thousands of Juggalos together in one place. There’s this innate sense of belonging and understanding that makes you feel safe and free of judgement. However, this feeling is slowly starting to fade. There have been several issues with people fighting, being mean, stealing, and making fun of each other while at the gathering. This is just unacceptable. The rest of the world is fucked, let our world remain that close-knit sanctuary it’s meant to be.

6. What is your most sacred thing you own and why?

My calendars are my most prized possession. Since 1999, I have kept these calendars that I write down what I do each and every day. I put in ticket stubs to shows, I decorate them, and keep track of every one of my ocd obsessions. I had one stolen from me once and it still haunts me to this day.

7. What is your favorite artist in psychopathic and favorite song by them?

My favorite artist is ICP and my favorite song is the Unveiling. I have many others, but this song gives me goosebumps and makes me cry each time I hear it. If you want to know more about it, catch me at the Gathering and purchase both of my books…it’s very detailed!

8. What would you do if ICP retired?

I often thought my life as I know it would end the day ICP decides to retire and stop making music. It has been the driving force in my life since I was 12 years old. I am so involved in the scene, my life has always consisted of the next big thing with ICP. I used to believe I would never live any other way and I would be devastated when they quit. But I’ve learned over the last 9 months, my life is taking dramatic turns toward all the things I’ve always wanted and not having ICP as the primal focus is not only desired, it’s required. My life as a Juggalo has been amazing, but my life as a wife and mother is going to be irreplaceable. It know the day i hear they have hung up their hatchets, I will not be sad, but proud I was a part of it. It will always be my fondest memories of times with family and friends, but the life I’m building with my husband is going to be better than I have dreamed. So no, I’m not scared or sad about the day they reach that point because my days of traveling the country are near their end. Every part in life has beginnings and ends, it’s the memories that live on forever.

9. What’s your biggest fear?

My biggest fear, nearly my whole life, has been of clowns. I was able to conquer this fear all because of one stage hand in a clown costume at an ICP show. I was up on stage for Faygo Armageddon and this one guy in a clown costume rushed me with a tackle hug. This moment changed my life forever. Now the only clown I hate is Pennywise from It. I am good with all of the rest. Now, my biggest fear is not being able to have children. My hubby and I are trying, so positive vibe are welcomed!

10. Name four things off your bucket list you have crossed off and four things still on it:

I have been able to cross off getting my bachelors degree in social work, my bachelor degree in criminal justice, becoming a published author, and being in a music video (check out “The King is Crowned” by Screaming for Silence). I still have on my list to spend a month in Ireland for my 50th birthday, skydive, see all 50 continental U.S. States (been to 14 so far), and be in an ICP music video (have been in a photo on this years Gathering site and in this years infomercial). We will see what happens! It you see me at a show, I’m the girl in the black and white checkers! This is Checkers of Juggalo News! Laters!
