Underground Rebels Tour – Review

House of Bricks in Des Moines, Iowa was the tour stop.

Headliners where Potluck and Kung Fu Vampire. I had a chance to talk to the performers about… whats all on our minds this time of year. The Mother F’n Gathering of the Juggalos.

Izzy Dunfore is set to play the gathering this year, Kung Fu Vampire is skipping it this year to work on new material, however fully intends to play the 2013 GoTJ. Potluck said they where unsure at this point, leaving it at “hopefully”. DGAF said they had also recieved a invite to preform.  So Izzy and DGAF will be there, and hopefully Potluck!  Very Nice!!

The Performers:

Izzy Dunfore is a genuinely talented and exciting hip hop artist who has the drive, as well as the charisma, to be the next big thing. http://izzydunfore.com/

The DRP is a rapper/metal vocalist. Has been in the bands Primer 55 & SORE. Worked w/Jared of Hedpe, Potluck, RA the Rugged Man, MARS, Saint Dog, etc.  http://myspace.com/thedrp1

DGAF was first introduced on a worldwide level through counterculture icons the Kottonmouth Kings. During the late ’90s, Gillies was roommates with the Kings own DJ Bobby B and D-Loc in Redondo Beach, CA who were quickly adopted into the DGAF family. http://www.suburbannoizerecords.com/?page=artist/DGAF

Kung Fu Vampire is an American rapper from San Jose, California and the vocalist of the musical group of the same name. He has opened for Twiztid, 2 Live Crew, Tha Alkaholiks, Digital Underground, Kool Keith, KRS-One, Papa Roach and The Pharcyde, in addition to collaborating with musicians such as Eddie Gale and Spice 1.  http://www.kungfuvampire.com/

Rap duo Potluck probably knows hip-hop’s ongoing relationship with marijuana better than most others, since their place of residence, Humboldt County, CA, is one of the marijuana production capitals of the world.  http://potluckmusic.com/

Izzy took the stage, having the largest local following however fitting right into this tour lineup with his lyrics, energy, and ability to shake the house of bricks. Tracks like ‘Get High’ and ‘Do What I Want’ Dominate the atmosphere and command crowd participation.  Do not miss his 2nd stage performance at the Gathering of the Juggalo’s.

DRP’s Mix of rock, rap, and punk vocal style is a nice change of pace in this day and age when a lot of stuff out there sounds so similar or repetitive. No crowd can’t get behind his track without chiming along “Dont fuck with me”. mAlthough he was here recently on a show, and really not far from his home. I think the time table killed him, as a good portion of his set was missed during the mass smoke break between sets. This show went pretty quick, with little to no down time. Smokers, where missin out during a good portion of his time on stage.

DGAF:  The energy and vibe in the venue during “Knuckle Up” had been un-matched up to this point in the night. Good scratch while rockin the turn tables, and bringing that CA noize like noone else can. Great set, but almost ruining it for me was the brief chicken huntin cover at the end of the set.  DGAF is now just Gillies and Chucky, however still bring a very strong stage precence.

Kung Fu Vampire: His new backdrop was crisp, clear, and id even say High Def. Hitting the stage in all black, coming out hard if Izzy Dunfore shook some bricks loose earlier, KFV knocked some out the foundation.  Crowd was hopin, right along with him, he unleashed some new music. (Stranger) and (Only noon)? Both went over very well and sounded great. Ofcourse he ended with huge crowd participating on “Dead girls don’t say no”. With some kick as merch for sale and a fan based attitude, don’t miss this tour, just to kick it and chat with KFV. (was so tempted to get my boy a lil onsie)

Potluck: Two Video screens background, playing their videos or images that fit in with the set, rather then having just the group back drop, a blow up bottle of crown, and the potluck street sign for stage presence, this was very nice.

Playing Vapors, and all the quick pro weed tracks quickly got the crowd into the flow. Then Underrated killed it by doing the 3 minute miracle flawlessly, and then after a short breath went in to a DJ Mode and spun some magic. Was hoping to see him hit Tech’s Worldwide Choppers beat he just put a video out of him tearing it up. 1ton and Underated ended with STFU, the whole tour joined them on stage, adding DRP’s energy into the mix got the crowd bouncing. KFV, and DGAF up there to raise they hype as well.

See my pictures from the night below, as well as thier lil tour diaries. This tour is still going strong, and hitting Michigan this weekend where they will be opening for ICP! Yeah i said ICP. I will be there!
